Retiring a Sim

The option to retire your Sim should show up at your Sim's info tab as soon as you completed all the traits for them. Sometimes it takes more days, but this is a common game error that usually gets fixed on its own.

Retiring means:
  • you no longer control this Sim; they'll either be an elder in your house or move out immediately if your household is full, depending on what you choose
  • other players can't request this retired Sim to move in with them (although they might still appear young in other people's towns)
  • you can still perform actions such as divorce, having a baby or adopting a baby with this retired Sim, but only for days before the option to socialize is greyed out
  • you get an heirloom chest which you can open for a randomly selected trait

Moving out means:
  • the Sim is no longer living with you, but you may still see them in town
  • they will eventually perish from the game (do so if you know you won't miss this Sim at all)
  • this Sim cannot be moved to another household again (can only be moved once)
If in case, you move out a Sim that hasn't retired yet, read here.

But what happens if the retirement option pops up and you accidentally press the button while tapping for objects at home? I really wish they would allow us to disable this.

Force close the game immediately, and come back in game to check whether your Sim is still retired. Keep in mind that if your game (your internet connection is too fast) and the action was saved before you force close the game, unfortunately that Sim will remain retired.

I have a suggestion to prevent this kind of mistake from happening. I keep my household always full, either with kids, adopting Sims from other players or marrying an NPC.

So if in case I click the unwanted 'retire' button, the game will tell me that my house is full (I need to select whether to move the Sim out or make space by moving out another Sim) so I get a second chance to choose not to retire the Sim.

I know having so many house members just means they're gonna hang out in the bathroom and bedroom, bugging you to use the toilet to recover the energy or woohoo for a baby, but personally I think it's worth the hassle because I love all my four Sims. I want to retire them carefully and only when I'm ready.
